November 16, 2006
The people at Nokia are certainly in a festive mood as they have their posted the highest sales record in a single day, anywhere in the world — a whopping 4,000,000 units got sold in India, which is largely attributed to the recently celebrated new year and Diwali Festival (Festival of Lights). Accroding to PhoneyWorld.com, “Ironically most of the sales came from the entry level low budget handsets which Nokia did not want to get into initially due to the lower profit margins. Nokia mentions that nearly 30% of the demand comes from rural and semi-urban India, which is entirely a ‘no-frills’ belt.”
The previous highest record of sales in a single day in India was at 1,000,000 units sold, a record also held by Nokia. ![]()
